Spermatophyta

Tumbuhan biji (Spermatophyta) merupakan kelompok tumbuhan yang memiliki ciri khas, yaitu adanya organ berupa biji. Lebih dari separuh kekayaan flora dunia termasuk ke dalam divisi tumbuhan berbiji.

Ciri-ciri :

·         Berukuran makroskopis

·        Habitus bervariasi yaitu pohon, perdu, semak dan herba

·        Organ tubuh sudah lengkap, terdiri atas akar, batang dan daun

·        Merupakan tumbuhan heterospora

·        Kandung lembaga terlindung di dalam ovula yang setelah mengalami pembuahan akan berkembang menjadi biji

·        Kebanyakan hidup di darat

·        Merupakan organisme fotoautotrof

·        Memiliki pembuluh angkut (xilem dan floem)

·        Alat reproduksi berupa bunga/stobilus

·        Cara reproduksi : buah, biji dan lembaga terbentuk setelah terlebih dahulu terjadi peristiwa polinasi dan fertilisasi (pembuahan). Pada tumbuhan berbiji terbuka terjadi pembuahan tunggal, sedangkan pada tumbuhan berbiji tertutup terjadi pembuahan ganda.

ü  Polinasi : Jatuhnya serbuk sari di kepala putik

ü  Fertilisasi : Peleburan serbuk sari dengan benang sari

·        Berdasarkan letak bijinya dibedakan menjadi dua subdivisi, yaitu :

Tumbuhan berbiji terbuka (Gymnospermae) dan tumbuhan berbiji tertutup (angiospermae)

Subdivisi Gymnospermae

·        Tidak memiliki bunga yang sesungguhnya, sporofil terpisah atau membentuk strobilus jantan (kecil) dan storbilus betina (besar).

·        Daun sempit, tebal, kecil, runcing dan kaku

·        Bakal biji menempel pada daun buah

·        Biji tidak tertutup daun buah (karpel)

·        Akar tunggang

·        Alat reproduksi : strobilus

·        Dibagi menjadi 4 kelas, yaitu :

ü  Cycadinae, contoh : pakis haji (Cycas rumphii)

ü  Coniferae atau Coniferinae, contoh : pinus (Pinus merkusii) dan damar (Agathis Alba)

ü  Gnetinae, contoh : melinjo (Gnetum gnemon)

ü  Ginkgoinae, contoh : Ginkgo biloba

·        Manfaat Gymnospermae bagi kehidupan menusia

ü  Tanaman hias, contoh Cycas rumphii

ü  Bahan makanan, contoh Gnetum gnemon

ü  Bahan industri, contoh Pinus merkusii

ü  Bahan obat-obatan, contoh Ginkgo biloba

·         Sudah memiliki bunga sesungguhnya

·         Bakal biji selalu diselubungi oleh suatu badan yang berasal dari daun buah (karpela)

·         Daun lebih lebar (daripada daun gymnospermae)

·         Akar tunggang/serabut

·         Alat reproduksi bunga

·         Dominan menjadi menakan dan obat

·         Dibagi ke dalam dua kelas, yaitu Dicotyledoneae (dikotil) dan Monocotyledoneae (monokotil)
